Two orphan boys wanted to continue their education after 8th grade. Working in a chemical company, they learned about child labour risks at a Bal Sabha meeting and chose to quit, returning to their studies with support from the Prerana Centre.
Six children faced educational challenges but improved significantly after joining Bal Sabha, receiving guidance from Dev Kripa Mandal. They attended school regularly, excelled academically, and celebrated their achievements, inspiring others in their community.
Two Children belonging to the Bal Sabha facilitated by our Partner Prerna Seva Kendra, Dongri, got a chance to walk alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Muttiah Muralitharan ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup India 2023 between India and Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium on November 02, 2023.
The Bal Sabha is a group where children meet weekly to learn about their rights through play-way based education. In one of the meetings, the children identified an issue of unclean drainage & garbage collection and reached out to the BMC. After follow-up, BMC took active action and now cleans the drainage and garbage daily. The children’s confidence has improved and their parents feel proud of this achievement.
The children of Halbudrukh Wadi did not have a place for their Bal Sabha Meetings. Their meetings were held either under a tree or at someone’s house. During one session the Wadi Prerika asked the children to identify an issue in their village. The children collectively answered that they needed a permanent place for their meetings.
The Child Rights Advocacy project, Bal Sabha Manch (BSM), by the Centre for Social Action, builds capacities of the children and offers a platform to speak up for child rights. It trains the children to identify issues in and around their communities, discuss and act on resolving these issues by networking with appropriate stakeholders, both, at the local as well at the government levels.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti which falls on 2nd October 2021, the children belonging to the Bal Sabha facilitated by our partner organization from Manori, Mumbai District, presented a street play in five wards of their village and the local market.
