Breaking Barriers: Asha’s Path to Self-Confidence

Asha, a 15-year-old resident of Manthanpada, Manori, began attending the English Language Class (ELC) facilitated by Savdhan Samaj Kendra (SSK) during 2017-18 when she was in the 3rd grade. She has completed Elementary Reading Modules 1 to 5 and has advanced her skills in areas such as self-introduction, months, days, and the formation of three- and four-letter words. Asha scored 16 out of 20 on the mapping test and 47 out of 50 on the final test, demonstrating her strong grasp of the material and her discipline.

Teachers describe Asha as disciplined, honest, and obedient. She takes responsibility during class and actively participates in ELC activities, often leading revision sessions and practice when needed. Over the years, Asha’s behaviour, attitude, and knowledge have significantly improved. She has overcome her fear of public speaking and has gained confidence while on stage. Additionally, she has completed a certificate course in spoken English and personality development, which has further enhanced her English skills.

With guidance on financial planning from the Centre for Social Action (CSA) and SSK staff, Asha opened an account at the Uttan Sub Post Office, where she regularly saves money. Her parents are proud of her progress and support her participation in ELC classes and her further education. Asha has also taken the initiative to obtain her Aadhar Card, add her name to the Ration Card, and secure her birth certificate from the BMC.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Asha is an active member of Navjeet Bal Sabha in Manthanpada. She participates in rallies, street plays, and awareness programs. She has been elected to the Bal Panchayat and is also a member of the Savitribai Kishori group.

Asha expresses her gratitude to CSA and SSK for the opportunities that have allowed her to grow and transition from ELC to Kishori, and she looks forward to continuing her active participation.
