Awareness on E-SHRAM Card

Centre for Social Action (CSA) in collaboration with the Mumbai Migrants Desk conducted an e-SHRAM card awareness session for migrants of different communities in Mumbai. Over 1000 migrants associated with 9 community centres attended this session which was spread across four months. A resource person from CSA informed the migrant attendees, that the card which was launched in August 2021 was meant for the overall welfare of crores of unorganized workers in the country.

She added that, although the Indian Government has many welfare schemes for unorganized sector workers and labourers, many workers are missing the opportunity to get benefits of the scheme because of a lack of awareness. It is the first-ever national database of unorganized workers, including migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers and others. This portal will assist The Labour and Employment Ministry of India to track and collect all information and data about labourers and workers of the unorganized sector.

The resource person mentioned in particular the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bhima Yojana scheme wherein on the death of the beneficiary due to any reason, Rs. 2 lakhs are provided to the beneficiary’s nominee. The registration process is online and what is needed is an Aadhaar Card, Aadhaar linked active mobile number and a bank account in a nationalized bank. She also added that the age criteria to avail of the card is 16-59 years.
