Tamnath village is situated in Karjat, Raigad District. There are a total of 55 households in the village and the number of families in the wadi is 85. The monsoons replenished the water in the well, but as summers came, the water level would go down, making it difficult for the women to fetch water to fulfil their daily needs. The well water was being used by people for all the work. The Gram Panchayat dug borewells for the people 2 or 3 times, but that too failed. This scarcity of water was causing a lot of trouble for the villagers.
This issue was discussed several times in the Gavki meeting and sought a solution. It was decided to write an application for drinking water under the tap water scheme to the Gram Panchayat. With the help of the CSA staff and the Wadi Prerika, an application was drafted by the villagers and submitted to the Gram Panchayat Office on 26th February 2020.
The people of the village did not lose hope as they continued to follow up with the authorities on the status of their application. Their patience bore fruit when they started getting tap water from April 2023 in their village.
So now the ladies from the village use tap water for their household activities. Now few of the villagers have understood how to write an application and the importance of following up on the same. They have also started inquiring with the Gram Sabha on various schemes that could benefit them.
