Paned livelihood success story

Paned village is located in Pen Taluka of Raigad district. The tribal hamlet has 450 members and 70 households. All households fall in BPL category. Due to landlessness, there is no consistent and reliable source of income for the tribal families throughout the year. Ganesh Kripa SHG is a group of
5 women of the Paned village who are involved in SHG activities such as regular saving. However, due to lack of sustainable livelihood, families migrate in search of work six months of the year.
Ganesh Kripa SHG started livelihood activities in February 2019 under the guidance of our partner organization, Asha Kiran, Paned and Centre for Social Action. They were trained in preparing products like Sprouted Ragi Flour, Ragi Papad, Nutri Mix Powder and Pickle. The products are sold to
the marketing enterprise viz., Navjeevan Enterprises which markets the products in Mumbai. Initial investment to start the food enterprise was loaned by Asha Kiran, Paned to Ganesh Kripa SHG.

Through the course of six months from February to July 2019, Ganesh Kripa SHG has prepared more than 1000 units of Sprouted Ragi flour and over 1500 units of Ragi Papad. They have been regular in their operations and have picked up the skill very fast. They have inculcated the habit of savings
early on under the guidance of Asha Kiran supervisors and began repaying initial investment loaned by Asha Kiran in instalments on a monthly basis.
As of August 2019, Ganesh Kripa SHG has become self-sustainable i.e., the initial investment amount loaned has been remitted completely and the SHG can now buy raw materials directly from their own profits. This is the first financial milestone of any enterprise. Their product has also received
praise from customers in Mumbai.
