Outreach to Tribal and Other Daily Wage Earners

Over the last week, Centre for Social Action through its network of partner organisations across Raigad, Thane and Mumbai is reaching out to over 3000 households of Tribal and other Daily Wage earners, with essential supplies totally amounting to Rs 25 lakhs.

Our beneficiaries include Tribal, Migrant, Elderly, Trans-gender and other vulnerable persons in Mahim, Versova, Malad East, Malwani, Borivili, Uttan, Pali, Chowk, Dongri, Gorai, Manori, Dombivili, Thane, Kalyan, Murbad Road, Khopoli, Karjat, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Kolad, Tala, and Mahad.

In the wake of the Covid19 outbreak the Government authorities have rightly called for a lockdown. This has led to the inevitable loss of livelihoods, and these labourers who survive on daily wages are doubly affected – they have to stay indoors to protect themselves from the infection and yet need to attend to the basic needs of the household. We have provided them with some relief by distributing food grains, sugar, oil, soaps and other essential material to last them for a period of 10 days.

In this outreach utmost care was taken to ensure that the regulations of the lockdown, so essential if we are to contain the spread of the Corona virus, were implemented rigorously. In most cases the distribution was organized in collaboration with the local officials.

Another significant aspect of this outreach was that there was zero cash transaction! We gratefully acknowledge our Partner Organisations, Provision Vendors and our Bank staff who coordinated the billing and online payment process.

We look forward to enrich our humanity while battling against the Covid19 outbreak, responding to the emerging needs and the situation as it unfolds over the next few weeks.
